Online consignment software for Shopify

Sell other people's items on your Shopify store and pay them automatically when they sell. Consignors get their own portal to follow their items and earnings; you keep control of pricing, photos and shipping.

Two ways to run consignment online

Most businesses start with one model and add the other: Garnet lets you set warehouse mode consignor by consignor.

You hold the items (classic consignment)

Consignors send or drop off their items. You photograph, list and ship them. Garnet's warehouse mode keeps consignors out of fulfillment: they cannot edit stock, fulfill orders or see customer details, but they see what sold and what they will be paid.

Consignors ship themselves (marketplace consignment)

Consignors list their own items and ship each sale. You approve listings, take a commission and handle payment. This scales to thousands of consignors without a warehouse.

Clothing, sneaker and luxury consignment

Fashion consignment needs strict checks before an item goes live. Use product fields for brand, size, condition and authenticity notes, require photos, and approve each listing. For sneakers and luxury goods, warehouse mode lets you authenticate every item before it ships to the buyer.

Online and in store

Garnet runs your consignment online, and in-store sales made with Shopify POS are split by consignor too, so every sale lands in the right consignor's statement. Tag printing, intake desks and cash drawers stay with your point of sale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about consignment and online consignment software? We have answers.

Ask a Question
  • What is consignment?

Consignment is an arrangement where the owner of an item (the consignor) lets a shop or platform (the consignee) sell it on their behalf. The consignor keeps ownership until the item sells, then receives an agreed share of the price.

  • How does consignment work?

The consignor brings or sends the item, the shop prices and lists it, and when it sells, the shop keeps its commission and pays the consignor the rest. Unsold items are returned, donated or marked down after an agreed period.

  • How do consignment shops work?

Consignment shops don't buy their stock. They take items from consignors, sell them, and keep a share of each sale, often between 30% and 60%. That share pays for the space, staff, marketing and payment fees.

  • What is the difference between consignment and resale?

In resale, the shop buys items upfront and owns them. In consignment, the consignor owns the item until it sells and is paid only after the sale.

  • Can consignors track their items online?

Yes. Each consignor logs into their own portal to see listed items, sales and upcoming payouts.

  • When should I pay consignors?

After your return window closes. With Garnet you can pay automatically a set number of days after the order is fulfilled.
