Most "dropship apps for Shopify" are sourcing apps: you pick products from a catalog of anonymous suppliers, often in China, and the app places the order for you. Garnet is the other kind. You choose the suppliers, usually established brands or wholesalers, and they connect their own store to yours.
| AliExpress-style sourcing apps | Garnet | |
|---|---|---|
| Who the suppliers are | A catalog the app gives you | Brands and suppliers you recruit |
| How products arrive | You import them one by one | The supplier's catalog syncs in real time |
| Stock levels | Refreshed by the app | Synced from the supplier's own store, with a safety buffer |
| Who ships | The supplier, often from abroad | The supplier, from their own warehouse |
| Your revenue | The margin you add | A margin you add, or a commission on each sale |
| Best for | Testing products fast | Building a curated store or marketplace around brands |

Each supplier gets an integration key.
On Shopify they install the free Garnet Seller app and paste the key. WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Magento, BigCommerce, Wix and Squarespace suppliers connect too, and others can send a CSV/XML feed, a Google Sheet or use the API. See all e-commerce integrations.
Import the whole catalog, or approve products one by one.
Add a flat amount, a percentage or both to every price: marketplace price = flat + supplier price × factor. Currency conversion is applied automatically when the supplier sells in another currency.
When a customer pays, the order is created in the supplier's store. The supplier ships it, and the tracking number comes back to Shopify and to your customer.
Fulfillment is where most dropship setups break. Garnet automates the whole loop:
Orders reach the supplier once payment is captured, never before.
A cart with products from three brands becomes three supplier orders, each with its own lines and shipping.
By default, suppliers receive a masked email address, so they cannot market to your customers.
When the supplier fulfills in their store, the tracking syncs to your Shopify order and your customer gets the shipping email.
If an order cannot be forwarded, you get an email with the full error trace.
| Update in the supplier's store | Reaches your store in |
|---|---|
| Price or stock change | about 0.3 seconds |
| New order forwarded | about 0.2 seconds |
| Tracking number | under 1 second |
| Images or description | 1.4 to 3.2 seconds |
Set a stock buffer to hide the last units of each product and avoid overselling, choose what syncs (full content, price and stock, or stock only), and keep your own prices when you prefer to set them yourself.
Retailer model. You sell the supplier's products as your own range and add a margin on top of their price. The supplier is paid their own price, minus your commission if you set one. Best for curated stores and concept shops. See how this works for retail marketplaces.
Marketplace model. Suppliers set their price, sell under their brand name, and you keep a commission on each sale. Garnet splits every order and pays suppliers automatically. Best when you work with many brands.
