Custom Specifications: Data-Rich Product Pages with Metafields

Standard product fields cover the basics, but many marketplaces need more. A bike marketplace needs frame size and gear count. A food marketplace needs origin, certifications, and allergens. A fashion platform needs material composition and fit guide.

Garnet's Specifications feature lets you define custom fields — like Origin, Category, or Material — that vendors fill in when creating a product. These fields are stored as Shopify metafields and can be used to automatically link products to the right collections, powering your navigation and filtering without manual work.

Localized Edits for Synchronized Stores

When a vendor connects their external Shopify or WooCommerce store, product data flows in automatically. But raw vendor data often needs to be adapted for your marketplace: different terminology, a more descriptive title, richer content.

Garnet supports three sync modes so you can choose the right level of control per vendor:

  • Full sync — all fields (title, description, images, price, stock) are kept in sync with the vendor's source store.
  • Price & stock sync — your editorial changes to titles and descriptions are preserved while price and inventory stay live.
  • Stock-only sync — maximum editorial control; only inventory levels are updated from the vendor's store.

For example, a vendor's product titled Red Shirt can be published on your marketplace as Seventies Long Sleeve Shirt — Red, and that name will not be overwritten by the next sync. Read about product sync settings.

    Can I auto-approve products from a trusted vendor?

    Yes. You can grant a vendor trusted status, which means their products skip the manual review queue and go live on your marketplace automatically. This is useful for high-volume vendors whose quality you have already validated.

    What happens if a vendor changes a price on their Shopify store?

    It depends on the sync mode configured for that vendor. With full sync or price & stock sync enabled, price changes on the vendor's Shopify store will be reflected on your marketplace automatically. With stock-only sync, only inventory levels update and your marketplace prices remain independent.

    Can I create custom attributes for specific product categories?

    Yes. Garnet's Specifications feature lets you define custom fields — such as Origin, Material, or Certification — that vendors must fill in when creating a product.     How do vendors connect their existing stores?

    Vendors authenticate their Shopify or WooCommerce store directly from their Garnet dashboard using OAuth. Once connected, Garnet initiates an initial product import and sets up ongoing sync. The full process typically completes in under 6 minutes. No technical knowledge is required on the vendor's side.

    Does the inventory sync work both ways?

    Yes. Inventory sync is bidirectional. When a product sells on your marketplace, the stock level is decremented on the vendor's source store. Conversely, if a product sells on the vendor's own storefront, the updated stock count is pushed to your marketplace. This prevents overselling across both channels.

    Can I reject a product and send feedback to the vendor?

    Yes. When rejecting a product, you can add a note explaining what needs to be corrected — for example, missing images, an incomplete description, or a pricing issue. The vendor receives an automatic notification with your feedback and can resubmit the product once they have made the required changes.

    Can vendors upload product variants via CSV?

    Yes. Garnet's CSV import supports up to 3 variant options per product (for example: Size, Color, and Material). Variants are mapped automatically from the file headers, and each variant can carry its own price, SKU, and stock level.
